"Indicator" Print

from $40.00

Caribou are an Indicator species. They are a beacon of the overall health and well-being of an entire ecosystem. Not only does their species act as the foundation that supports all kinds of other flora and fauna life, but they also support all the natural amenities that us humans depend on — the nourishing soil, fresh water, and clean air.

This piece showcases 29 flora, fauna, and fungi species all amongst the lively Boreal Forest. Many of the species depicted are listed as threatened or endangered species within Canada, including: Lady Slipper Flower, Wolverine, Grizzly Bear, Canadian Warbler, and Whooping Crane.

The original piece stands 3 feet by 4 feet on birch wood. All of the grey-scale components are drawn with graphite and all of the color is built up through many, many silkscreen layers. The prints are also on birchwood and mounted on the cradle so they are ready to hang. Please note none of the wood used was harvested from critical Caribou habitat.
